Graceful and aromatic, the Hinoki Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) is an ancient species of tree native to Japan and Taiwan. Its wood is of superior strength, and it is recorded in the construction of some of the earliest Buddhist temples built around 600 AD. While some of the old hinoki forests are under danger of extinction, it is a mainstay of Japanese culture and history. In this beginner-friendly class, students will learn how to heighten the elegant qualities of this tree with refined pruning and wiring techniques. The Hinoki Cypress is a cold hardy tree, meaning it resides outdoors during Spring, Summer and Fall, and must be kept cool during Winter dormancy.
