Itoigawa Shimpaku

Special Focus: Itoigawa Shimpaku Juniper

Taught by Zuma Fleischmann
Skill level: Intermediate

The Itoigawa Shimpaku, named after the coastal town in Niigata where many of these trees were first bought and sold, has a rich cultural history dating back to the “Golden Age” of bonsai. We have acquired and set aside a beautiful selection of this cultivar, allowing them to grow at the nursery for several years. You may have already noticed Zuma’s craftsmanship on some of our most beautiful shohin shimpaku bonsai, and we are excited for him to share his approach to this material. Students should be prepared to learn jin and shari-carving with hand tools, detailed wiring, and traditional styling techniques. We have created this 2-day class to ensure that there is enough time to finish and refine these beautiful trees.

Includes all materials required to take the class.
