Please join us for expert perspectives on growing and cultivating Shimpaku Juniper and Japanese Black Pine with interactive lectures and advanced level workshops. Master Koji is the fourth-generation owner of Hiramatsu Shunsho-en, a nursery and garden in Takamatsu, Japan specializing in shohin trees. As the managing director of the All Japan Shohin Bonsai Association, and with over 30 years of bonsai cultivation, Koji is considered the foremost expert on shohin artistry. He holds awards across many exhibitions, and has a substantial international presence. Koji’s passion for teaching and his optimism for future generations of bonsai practitioners are evident in the energy he puts into his classes and demonstrations.

Master Gerald’s professional experience can be traced back to his horticulture degree from Algonquin College and a traditional bonsai apprenticeship in Takamatsu, Japan. There he trained under Koji’s father, Kuniaki. Today, Gerald focuses on the long-term production of high quality bonsai material, much of which has landed at our nursery for further cultivation and refinement. His experience as one of the first westerners to complete a bonsai apprenticeship makes him a font of knowledge and an excellent resource for developing trees with powerful presence.
